The forum was to discuss and endorse changes to our electoral system and the way forward for the country. Reeves has been informed of the decision.
A senior government official told Fiji TV that Reeves’ services are not required anymore.
Reeves was appointed the Commonwealths Special Envoy to Fiji. He has already visited Fiji on two occasions and held discussions with the interim government and other political stakeholders.
Reeves was identified to chair the proposed President’s Political Forum. The special envoy had already prepared a terms a reference for the proposed forum and said to have forward a copy to the interim government.
What has happened between that time to now has put this man’s involvement into Fiji’s domestic political scene has been thrown out the door.
One National News was able to confirm Reeves has been informed his services aren’t required any longer.
A senior government official, who didn’t want to named, has confirmed the interim government wasn’t happy with some of the statements Reeves had been making privately to individuals in Fiji.
These statements have been described as conflicting and that Reeves might have compromised his position as the prospective chairman.
Fiji TV also reported that the Independent Monitoring Group of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji led by Vanuatu citizen Sela Molisa could now be approached to chair the political forum.
Official secretary to the president Rupeni Naceva said an official announcement would be made soon.
