Concerned citizen complains about wedding ceremony at DPS

The individual also stated that inmates were utilized to put up decorations for the wedding.

Department of Corrections inmates cannot  be used for any purpose, the concerned citizen added. “Their services are available at the request of agencies for public purposes, and not for private functions.”

But DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero said there was nothing illegal or improper about the wedding ceremony and reception.

The newly weds are police officers but no public funds were spent, he added.

“What is the difference between getting married at the mayor’s office and at DPS? Both are government offices,” he said.

“We are one DPS family, and the family members of the newly weds brought lunch for their colleagues. We did not a have a guest list, and no public funds or DPS money was used for the wedding ceremony and reception.”

Guerrero added that the people who “set up the place to decorate were on leave.”
