The conference is hosted by the National Science Foundation and will be held at the Fiesta Resort & Spa from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Northern Marianas College, the facilitator of the event, is expecting representatives from Coastal Resource Management, the Division of Environmental Quality, the Public School System, the Department of Land and Natural Resources, and other government agencies that deal with science.
NMC President Carmen Fernandez said all PSS principals are also expected to attend.
She said the National Science Foundation, a federal government agency, is supporting fundamental research and education in all non-medical fields of science and engineering.
With an annual budget of about $6.06 billion, the foundation fulfills its mission by issuing limited-term grants, Fernandez said, adding that at present about 10,000 new awards per year are granted.
The grant has an average duration of three years to fund specific research proposals, she added.
The main speaker in the conference is John S. Cruickshank, a senior program analyst of the National Science Foundation.
