Rep. Ray N. Yumul, R-Saipan, said he just wanted to clarify if some of the funds could be tapped for the CNMI government’s resources for fiscal year 2010 which starts on Oct. 1.
“There was no insinuation that the money was missing or anything,” he told the Variety yesterday.
“I heard from a source, from within [the administration], that I need to be on the look out because [the cover-over funds] were not properly reported to us,” he added. “There were discrepancies.”
But Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos said $24 million of the amount was used to replenish the Rebate Trust account and the rest was used to retire the FY 2008 deficit.
All the funds were accounted for, he added.
Yumul has introduced House Bill 16-265 which seeks to require the secretary of finance to report on a quarterly basis all monies received and deposited into the special rebate trust account.
