THE planning committee for the 2002 Consuls General Conference has finalized the details for tomorrow’s first ever gathering of the envoys.
“The CNMI government is very hopeful that this conference will strengthen the ties with the…Philippines, Japans, the Marshalls, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and (South) Korea,” Gov. Juan N. Babauta said in a statement to Variety yesterday.
Tourism enhancement and the economy will be the key issues to be raised.
“It will be a wonderful opportunity for all of us,” the governor said.
With the theme, “Enhancing Ties Between the CNMI and the Consular Corps,” the envoys from the Philippines, Japan, Palau, the FSM, the Marshalls and South Korea will gather tomorrow at the administration building on Capitol Hill.
Babauta will discuss CNMI issues and concerns on the economy and tourism.
Washington Rep. Pedro A. Tenorio will talk about the federal perspective on local issues and concerns.
Philippine Ambassador to the United States Alfredo del Rosario will be the guest speaker.
Today, the governor will sign a proclamation declaring June 8 to 16 as Northern Marianas-Philippine Friendship Week.
Tonight, the Filipino community on Saipan will host a dinner reception for del Rosario and his wife, Margaret Gretchen de Venecia-Del Rosario.
