Contract prepared for ex-Insular Affairs chief

Finance Secretary Frankie B. Villanueva on Friday said that former Insular Affairs Director Ferdinand Aranza’s contract with the CNMI government was already being prepared.

“We are now working on the contract,” Villanueva told Variety. “But it has not been signed yet.”

Aranza is proposing to tap pending federal grants for the CNMI.

Based on the last federal audit report, as of Sept. 2001 the CNMI had a total of about $10 million worth of receivable grants.

Aranza will be paid based on the amount of grants he could secure for the CNMI, Villanueva said.

The CNMI also expects to get more federal grants due to the several applications filed this year, he added.

The total figure will be known by the end of the fiscal year and until a new audit is conducted, Villanueva said.
