Superior Court Associate Judge Perry B. Inos ordered the release of Mohammad Jahangir Miah from the custody of the Department of Corrections after the preliminary hearing on Aug. 17, 2010.
“Based on matters adduced at the hearing, the court finds no probable cause to believe that the charges in the information…were committed and that they were committed by [Miah],” Inos said in his written order.
The Attorney General’s Office filed one count of theft of vehicle and one count of vehicle identification against Miah and his wife Tahira S. Miah.
The AGO said the Miah couple took the vehicle of Chai Jin Liu on June 20, 2010, and defrauded the victim by falsifying the transfer of certificate of ownership of the vehicle in question.
The court modified the bail for Mrs. Miah who was required to post $200 as 10 percent of $2,000, and the $1,800 remaining as appearance bond.
Mr. Miah is facing another charge of theft of vehicle.
