Court places ‘ice’ defendant on probation

Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Peter Magofna Sablan to three years in jail, but all suspended, with credit for 30 days served at the Department of Corrections facility.

Sablan has signed a plea agreement, admitting  two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance, and conspiracy to commit “ice” trafficking.

Sablan’s co-defendant, Joesey S. Maratita, 33, was also sentenced to three years imprisonment, all suspended with credit for 30 days  served at the Corrections facility.

A CNMI Customs inspector, Maratita signed a plea agreement, and admitted illegal possession of controlled substance, and conspiracy to commit trafficking of “ice.”

Sablan and Maratita were arrested after the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force purchased “ice” two times from them on April 21, 2010.

Govendo said Sablan “must actively participate in and complete any treatment programs” recommended by the center.

Sablan must visit a counselor twice a week for one year and undergo treatment or therapy if recommended by the center.

Sablan will pay a $100 fine prior to the expiration of his probation period, a $100 court assessment fee within 30 days, a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office, and he must obey all federal and CNMI laws.
