CPA board renews Salas’s contract

THE Commonwealth Ports Authority yesterday approved for another year Carlos H. Salas’s employment contract as CPA executive director.

Salas was endorsed by Gov. Juan N. Babauta, who also nominated former House Speaker Jose R. Lifoifoi and former Rota Mayor Prudencio T. Manglona to the CPA board.

CPA board member Frank Guerrero will be nominated to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board.

CPA’s board has expressed support for the nominations of Lifoifoi and Manglona.

Salas’s term as acting CPA executive director will expire in April. With the approval of his new contract, he will continue serving the agency until December.

Babauta and Salas had a meeting yesterday.

“It was a very positive meeting mainly focusing on what kind of plans we have—the short and long-term plans. He appeared very pleased about the management,” Salas told the board members during their regular meeting.

“My commitment to CPA and to the public has gotten stronger. I hope we can move on,” Salas said.

CPA Chairman Roman S. Palacios and Aviation Facilities Committee Chairman Roman Tudela’s courtesy resignations were rejected by the governor.

They will remain on the CPA board.

In a separate interview, Senate President Paul A. Manglona commended Salas for his commitment to the ports authority.

“I am supporting him. He has done a great job over the last four years. I congratulate him for his renewal,” Manglona, R-Rota, said.

“I am looking forward to working with him on various issues such as infrastructure development in airports and seaports in the CNMI,” he added. (With U.T. Sabuco)
