CPA hires financial consultant

CPA Executive Director Efrain Camacho yesterday reported to the board that the agency had signed a three-month contract with Bruce MacMillan of International Management Ltd.

The CPA comptroller position was earlier turned down by Rufo T. Mafnas.

“The situation with filling  the comptroller’s position continues to be a challenge and although the position has been re-advertised starting in December, there is only one applicant at this time,” Camacho told the board.

He said MacMillan will work with CPA’s accounting department, “especially in the determination of the charges required to cover the seaport bond payment.”

According to Camacho, CPA “is in the process of applying for grants through the ports security and homeland security grant programs. It is very competitive, however, and CPA is but a small entity among the ports applying for grants.”

Acting CPA comptroller Frances Mafnas, for her part,  submitted a financial report to the board but its contents were not disclosed to the media.
