PIC will launch duck race to raise funds for March Against Cancer

The duck race, according to PIC sports manager Lindsey Sosovec, will be launched at the PIC lazy river at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 21.

“We will be launching the rubber ducks from the Point Break slide. They will go down the slide and complete one revolution in the lazy river. The owner of the duck who crosses the finish line first will receive $1,000 prize,” Sosovec said.

The rubber ducks are sold at $5 each, and PIC will only be selling 2,009 ducks.

Sosovec said this is the first year they will be holding a duck race.

They have done other fundraising activities in the past years for the Marianas March Against Cancer like coin drives, serving hot lunches, doing luminary sales, conducting car wash activities, bake sales and other events.

Sosovec said buyers could pick up their rubber ducks from PIC, decorate it or write names of cancer victims they would like to pay tribute to or honor.

“Just be sure to return the rubber ducks in time for the launching,” she said.

She added that all proceeds of the duck race will go to cancer patients and research programs.

“We would appreciate your support and participation in this fundraising activity for the cancer victims. You could buy one duck, a hundred or a thousand ducks and take the ducks home after the race if you want to. Your $5 can make a lot of difference for the cancer patients,” she said.

Sosovec said anybody who is interested in purchasing ducks can drop by PIC anytime.

She was one of the speakers during the Rotary Club meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan on Tuesday.
