Crime Stoppers enlist youth’s help

Tarkong has been making presentations in schools throughout Saipan, and there are plans to do the same on Tinian and Rota.

“The goal of these presentations is to educate the youth community on how Crime Stoppers, in conjunction with regular citizens, can help keep the NMI a safe place to live and visit,” the program’s vice president Christina M. Smith said.

She believes that the youth senators are the “perfect audience,” and that as role models, they “can be part of an effective effort in reaching out to other youths.”

The Crime Stoppers program plans to establish a youth committee to tap into the ideas, innovation and enthusiasm of the youth.

“What better way to reach the youth than through the youth?” Smith said.

She said the committee will include students from different schools and age-groups.

It will help develop and implement a campaign that is interesting and appealing to the youth of the island.

Asked about the importance of getting the youth involved in  Crime Stoppers activities, Smith said: “It is important to reach out to the youth because they know what is happening in the community and through them we can get more accurate information about crimes.”
