Crime Stoppers: Still no news on missing worker

“NMI Crime Stoppers has not yet received calls or any updates about the whereabouts of Alex Matubis, but we hope somebody would come up with information about him. The cash reward of up to $1,000 is waiting,” Crime Stoppers Program chairman Jim Arenovski said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Matubis, 47, was reported missing since July 29, 2008. He has been working on Saipan as a draftsman and surveyor for the past 23 years.

Arenovski said  as soon as there is any development and the Crime Stoppers receive a call that will shed light on Matubis’ disappearance, the police will inform the public.

“Anybody can call NMI Crime Stoppers at 234-7272 to report any information,” he said.

The Crime Stoppers program has 24-hour hot line for informants. The system does not use caller ID and informants can also use a secure online information form anonymously.

Authorities recovered Matubis’ blue pick-up truck near the Kalabera Caves on Aug. 16, 18 days after his disappearance.

Matubis’ wife Malou flew in to Saipan on Sept. 7, and is still waiting for any news on her husband’s whereabouts.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro earlier said that anybody who has information about Matubis can also contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9042/9047.

Matubis was last seen on July 28 at a grocery in  Koblerville helping a lady load soft drinks onto her car. He was also spotted at a remittance office on the same day.
