BEGINNING June 15, the connecting carrier surcharges of CSX Lines will increase by 29 percent following the recent filing of Guam-based Seabridge, Inc. for an increase in fuel surcharge.
According to CSX, rates per container for Saipan and Tinian will be increased from the current $53 to $68.56.
For Rota, the rate will be raised from $97 to $125 per container.
“Carrier surcharges will increase as a result of Seabridge’s recent filing for adjustment,” Mar Labrador of CSX Lines yesterday said.
CSX Lines provides ocean transportation and logistics services to and from the U.S. including Guam and Saipan.
In a May 15 letter to Labrador, Seabridge said that due to higher fuel costs, it had filed an increase in its fuel adjustment factor.
The adjustment was implemented effective May 31.
“The adjustment will be effective (on) all Seabridge bills of lading for cargo shipped between Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota,” Seabridge said.
The surcharge rates would change depending on the trend of fuel prices, Seabridge said.
“We will continue to monitor the fuel prices and adjust the fuel surcharges based on fuel market trends,” it added.
