June is water conservation month

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — President Tommy Remengesau has declared June as Water Conservation Month and is urging the public to implement water conservation measures in homes and businesses.

According to Remengesau, there is a need to save water because the country’s consumption is way beyond the consumption levels in developed countries.

In developed nations throughout the world, water systems are designed to provide roughly 100 gallons per capita per person a day, Remengesau said.

The Koror-Airai water system currently treats and pumps roughly 3.8 million gallons of water per day—an average of 250 gallons per person per day, which is 2 1/2 times the amount generally consumed by developed countries.
