Board of Education Vice Chairman Herman T. Guerrero said CUC acknowledged that the following figures it earlier wanted PSS to pay were “discrepancies”: $414,214 in Oct. 2006; $331,412 in FY 2007; and $138,175 in FY 2008.
Based on the new figure CUC submitted to PSS, public schools owe the utilities agency $1.3 million as of end of FY 2008.
Commissioner of Education. Rita A. Sablan yesterday said since the central government paid for the school’s utilities in FY 2006, the $414,214 CUC charged to PSS account will be paid by the central government.
It was only in FY 2007 when PSS started paying its power consumption, which is an unbudgeted item.
CUC also acknowledged the following payments made by PSS: $2.7 million in FY 2007 and $3 million in FY 2008 for a total of $5.7 million.
As of Aug. 30, 2008, PSS owed CUC $1.126 million.
In Sept. 2008, PSS received a billing statement of $272,582 for its utilities consumption. Of this amount, however, $49,486 was “miscalculated” by CUC, which means that the school system’s bill last month should be $223,096.
For FY 2008, PSS owes CUC a total of $1.349 million which is not included in the school system’s current $35.8 million budget.
