CUC announces 35 job vacancies for US citizens, US permanent residents only

CUC human resource manager Frankie Cepeda said the positions are not for nonresident workers.

Each job vacancy announcement states that applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or those eligible to work in the U.S. and specifically the CNMI without needing sponsorship by CUC for a U.S. work visa.

Public Law 17-36 allows CUC to have 30 foreign workers only for engineers and professional employees in technical or trade areas.

Asked about the budget for the job vacancies, Cepeda said the announcements were approved by CUC’s chief financial officer Charles H. Warren and CUC Executive Director Abe Utu Malae.

Aug. 16 was the opening date for four financial accounts technicians with salary ranging from $19,425 to $25,231 per year. The closing date will be on Aug. 30, 2011.

Other job vacancies with Aug.  8 as the opening date include four meter readers, with a salary from $15,139 to $19,664 per year; one meter technician, $21,104 to $28,494 per year; six financial accounts specialists, $23,200 to $31,324 per year; and one financial accounts analyst, $32,981 to $46,205.

Cepeda said they also need four trades assistants who will be assigned to the power generation, power, water  and wastewater divisions.

The trades assistant position, which can be filled  by high school graduates, gets $11,036 a year in salary. The position was opened on Aug. 9 and it will be closed until the posts are filled.

CUC needs five trades technicians as electricians, operators, machinists, mechanics and welders, Cepeda said.

Applicants may not be specialist but should have four years of related experience.

The salary for trades technicians range from $17,282 to $25,059 per year.

CUC will also hire two administrative support technicians for the power division with a salary of $17,713 to $21,800, and one administrative support assistant for the wastewater division with an annual salary of $11,036 to $12,263.

Two job vacancies for senior specialists who will assigned to the Rota and Saipan power plants were opened on Aug. 9 with an annual salary of $30,000 to $45,000.

Cepeda said they are offering competitive salaries for the position of a senior specialist because  applicants should have advanced knowledge and skills.

The highest offering of $47,939 to $67,115 in annual salary is for the contracting officer who will be working under the direct supervision of the chief financial officer.

Cepeda said the contracting officer will have a two-year contract while the rest of the job vacancies are “not contracted.”

He said they posted advertisements in the CNMI and Guam and online.
