Vicente Sablan gets 3 months for green sea turtle poaching

Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo yesterday sentenced Sablan to six months imprisonment, all suspended except for three months, with credit for time served.

Sablan was arrested on Aug. 9, 2011.

He is expected to be released from prison on Nov. 10, 2011 and will be placed on three years’ probation.

Sablan will pay a $500 fine, court costs and a probation fee.

He will complete 100 hours of community work service, dealing with environmental cleanup or environmental education.

He will cooperate in the prosecution of any endangered species case involving other defendants about whom Sablan has relevant knowledge.

During his probationary period, Sablan will not harvest fish or apply for a fishing license, and will not board a boat. He will forfeit to the government any fishing gear used in this case.

Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest represented the government, while Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke served as counsel for Sablan.
