THE Commonwealth Utilities Corporation is pleased to announce the start of the Afetnas waterline and sewer line replacement project, which includes the installation of new manholes. Construction is scheduled to begin on June 5, 2025, and continue through July 29, 2026 (not 2025 as earlier stated), from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Funded by the U.S. American Rescue Plan Act and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this project will replace aging asbestos cement pipes that were installed over 40 years ago with durable PVC pipes. These improvements aim to reduce frequent leaks, strengthen water quality protection, and lower CUC’s non-revenue water percentage.
The project will also address deficiencies in the existing 6-inch sewer pipeline, which can no longer meet the area’s growing demands. Replacing the pipeline and installing new, accessible manholes will increase system capacity, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
Hong Ye Rental and Construction, CUC’s contractor, will perform these critical infrastructure upgrades to improve the reliability and efficiency of water and wastewater services in Afetnas.
Traffic delays are expected along Afetnas Road and adjacent residential streets, including: Buninas Loop, Chalak Lane, Pios Drive, Uahu Lane, Toson Drive, Sata Drive, and Dodo Way.
Motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive with caution while traveling through these areas for the safety of construction crews.
CUC appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as it works to improve essential utility services.
