“It’s a great challenge for us. We learned something very productive. We are trained to climb pole, rigged transformers, and conduct a pole top rescue,” he said.
Seven months since he was hired by CUC, Santos will be among the 10 linemen to receive a certificate today for the series of linemen training he has attended.
Harry “Spike” Speicher, Pacific Lineman Training director, said CUC now has 10 skilled linemen for its repair and installation work in the distribution system.
“They are all dedicated to their work,” said Speicher who has been training CUC personnel for many years now.
Speicher and Chris Middleton, another trainer from Pacific Lineman Training, also trained linemen in Palau, Yap, Chuuk and Guam.
Speicher said CUC personnel undergo training for 18 weeks.
Last January, seven linemen, including one from Rota, underwent hotwire training, which allows linemen to continue their repair job without necessarily switching off the power generation.
This recent training was participated by at least 15 personnel, including three from Rota.
They learned the basics of pole climbing and the use of equipment, Speicher said.
Leo Darry, a lineman from Rota, said the training taught them new techniques.
“This is a new experience for us,” he added.
He said they also learned how to be safe when climbing a pole.
CUC power division manager Gary Camacho said the program is a major step in providing better services to their customers.
He said CUC linemen now have a better understanding of their field work.
Camacho lauded the trainees for their continued cooperation and dedication.
