CUC Executive Director Abe Utu Malae on Monday said the selection panel is now working on the second round of interviews of the four of 23 candidates for the deputy executive director’s position.
He said the deadline for the selection is Nov. 12.
Two of the short-listed candidates for the other federally stipulated positions will be here next week to view CUC’s facilities, he said.
“The challenge to CUC is to have someone with the right combination of managerial and technical skills in the deputy executive director’s position,” Malae said.
He noted that the downside of the federally mandated positions “is that we may end up being top heavy but with insufficient number of skilled workers.”
For this reason, he said, his previous position — assistant executive director for operations — is no longer in the organizational chart.
He said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency also insisted that the deputy executive director report directly to the executive director.
The job vacancy application for the deputy director was opened on Jan. 6 and closed on July 16.
The salary ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 per year.
