CUC water division manager Mariano Iglecias said the training will allow site workers, operators, handlers, personnel at treatment, storage and disposal facilities to be aware of certain hazards.
The training, he said, is important because CUC is “classified as a hazardous employer.”
On Nov. 15, staff of the water and wastewater division underwent training transporting and handling hazardous and dangerous materials safely.
This time, Iglecias said, the training will provide awareness on where hazardous chemicals are present.
The training will allow CUC to be in compliance with applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the hazardous waste operations and emergency response policy and procedures as they apply to the CNMI, he said.
The training also covers domestic preparedness to provide assistance to emergency responders in preparing and responding to a terrorist incident involving nuclear, biological, or chemical agents.
Bill Sheppey of Omega Safety Compliance Asia Pacific is conducting the training in the CUC conference room.
Iglecias said Sheppy is certified by the Department of Defense and the Firefighter Certification System, which has been accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.
Sheppy is also a member of the National Association of Safety Professionals in Washington, D.C., a certified hazmat master instructor, a weapons of mass destruction technician instructor. a member of the U.S. Air Force first response team and a disaster preparedness chief.
