CUC plans to revive ‘water festival’

“We want to remind each individual about their role as stewards of our natural resources, including, most importantly, water,” he said.

CUC is still looking for a dedicated staff member that can implement and pursue the water education program consistently, Iglecias said,

The program has to appeal to a wide range of audience — from students to adults, he added.

There is no scarcity of water on island but there is an urgent need to protect Saipan’s water sources, Iglecias said.

In the past,  CUC spearheaded a water festival through its Project WET or Water Education for Teachers, a federally funded program that promotes water conservation nationwide.

The program primarily targeted elementary school  students especially those from fourth to sixth grades.

Project WET, which was usually held in September, involved hands-on activities, laboratory sessions, investigations, discussions of local and global issues, island resource projects and teaching management strategies.
