Garry P. Camacho, CUC’s power division manager, said the new residential rate for the first 500 kwh is $0.286 per kilowatt hour compared to October’s $0.353.
For the second 500 kwh up to 1,000 kwh, the new rate is $0.336 per kwh; for the next 1,000 kwh it will be $0.356 per kwh; and for over 2,000 kwh, the rate is $0.397 per kwh.
The new rate for commercial customers is $0.356 per kwh, while for the government, it will be $0.361 per kwh.
The monthly customer charges remain $5.60 for residential customers, $7.67 for commercial and government customers, and $56 for non-conforming load.
The Public Utilities Commission is now in the process of formulating the power structure that is scheduled to be completed this year.
CUC officials could not say whether the new power rate will be lower or higher than the current rates.
The soaring power rates have been cited as the primary reason for the closure of several business establishments on island.
