Man in aggravated assault enters guilty plea

Ressy Ellis entered into a plea agreement on October 14 with his counsel Chief Public Defender Garth Backe.

Ellis entered a guilty plea to one count of aggravated assault.Chief Justice Arthur Ngiraklsong accepted his plea and set the sentencing for December 5, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Melekeok courtroom.The maximum sentence for aggravated assault is 10 years imprisonment.The plea agreement stated that Ellis sentence will be determined by the court in its discretion, subject to a maximum term of 12 months imprisonment.The plea agreement stated that defendant will be placed on active probation and will be evaluated at the Bedochel Clinic for anger management and shall complete any treatment programs recommended by the counselors if any.Defendant was ordered not to harass the victim Chamberlain Ngiralmau.The defendant was charged for assaulting the victim with a machete during an argument on March 1.The victim and the defendant were engaged in a drinking session when engaged in argument later.The defendant got mad at the victim and attacked him with a machete when he tried to stop him from collecting crabs.
