“This is the second collapse in Chalan Kanoa. The pipes have been in the ground since the early 70s,” he told Variety.
CUC, he added, is “replacing the stretch between manholes of 290 feet of vitreous clay pipe.”
This week, local contractor USA Fanter Corp. Ltd. started the repair work, which includes the installation of PVC pipes and will cost $91,000.
It will take two weeks to complete the repair job which started with the arrival of the materials and the approval of the permit from the Division of Environmental Quality.
Meantime, the contractor has installed a by-pass line to allow the continuity of the sewer system’s operation in the affected area.
Malae said CUC is monitoring daily the sewer collection system and is ready to respond immediately to any problem occurring in the sewer line.
