He said the problems regarding safety and cleanliness have “always been there.”
“Losing people and lack of funding have contributed” to the problem, he added.
After visiting in Power Plant 1 in Lower Base, Washington Rep. Pedro A. Tenorio told Variety he may ask the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration to look into the safety conditions of the facility.
“I think they are not in compliance with the rules and regulations of OSHA,” Tenorio said, adding that he spotted some areas that were “very greasy.”
The workers, he added, were not well protected.
Muna said CUC personnel working at the power plant are “aware of the greasy area and it’s not new to them — they are careful.”
The working area can be improved but CUC has to start addressing the power production first, he added.
Still, Muna said the safety and cleanliness of the facility is part of their recovery plan for the power plant.
