CUC says nonpayment of gov’t accounts still a problem

In a report to the federal court, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the CNMI Attorney General’s Office,  said as of Jan. 2001, CUC was owed $2,524,198.80 by the CNMI government for Nov. 2010 through  Jan. 2011.

Fisher said CUC was owed $1,339,181.77 by the Public School System.

CUC also reported concerns on the availability of funds in complying with the federal stipulated orders.

The U.S. District Court for the NMI, the U.S. EPA, the local AGO and CUC met yesterday for the latest status hearing.

Three years ago, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency signed and lodged two stipulated orders seeking to reform and bring into compliance CUC’s wastewater plants and collection systems, public drinking water systems, five power plants and an oil transfer pipeline.
