CUC studies impact of high court ruling

CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna yesterday said the recent decision of the Supreme Court will “obviously [have] an impact” on the agency.

The Supreme Court said the increased rate implemented through an executive order issued by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial was unconstitutional.

Muna said CUC is now assessing the decision and consulting with  its legal counsels.

“That’s the best we can say at this point on that issue,” he added.

Because of the court decision, he said there is a possibility that customers in that period of time will also ask for an “adjustment” of their bills.

As of yesterday, Muna said they had not received any call from customers asking for refunds or a recalculation of their bills in 2006.

“There may be people who may want to inquire about that,” he added.

In its decision, the high court remanded the case to CUC for the  recalculation of Torres’ and Angello’s bills.

Muna said what is important is that CUC approach the situation by consulting with its attorneys to know how to deal with the customers affected by the rate increase in 2006.
