CUC vows to maintain water reservoirs

“The maintenance plan is now put in effect. And I don’t think it’s a matter of ‘can’ but  ‘must,’ ” CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said.

Last week, the $600,000 worth of federally funded water projects in Marpi, As Matuis, San Roque and Tanapag was completed, and are now serving over 1,000 customers, CUC said.

The projects, undertaken by the Water Task Force, involved the connection of six existing water wells to the 1 million-gallon water reservoir which now produces up to 851,040 gallons a day, compared to 436,320 gallons per day in the past.

Early this month, the Water Task Force also turned over the rehabilitated $335,000 water reservoir project in Isley, which services 7,570 customers in Chalan Kanoa, Susupe, San Antonio and Chalan Pio and San Jose.

Muna said there is no need for CUC to increase water rates to allocate funds for the maintenance of its water reservoirs.

Because the good services would mean better income for CUC, he added.
