Cultural Heritage & Arts Pacifika Exhibit now open

Arts Council events coordinator Parker Yobei said as of Monday, 15 artists had brought their work for sale or for display at the gallery.

The participating artists include Leung Kung, Mark Robertson, Robert Hunter, Margarita Serepao, Catherine Perry Anderson, Priscilla Pangelinan, Ignacio C. Borja, Sylvia Daguitan, Debbie Winkfield, Lucille Kraufer, R. Diaz, Vicente C. Duenas, Jake Mendiola, Francisco M. Cabrera and the late Albert Toves Jr.

Yobei said the artwork of Toves, the only sand painter of the CNMI, will only be for display.

Toves passed away in February this year.

Prices of the items for sale at the art exhibit range from $5 to $400, and these include paintings, photographs, cross-stitched work, handicrafts, beads, necklaces, carved wood and other works of art.

The art gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sundays and holidays.

The exhibit will run until Oct. 23.

“We would like to invite everybody to come and visit the art exhibits, and buy artwork to support our local artists,” Yobei said.

All the proceeds from the sales will go to the artists.

The Cultural Heritage & Arts Pacifika Exhibit is one of the yearly exhibits facilitated by the Arts Council to promote the talents and skills of local artists, preserve local culture and create a link between artists, art collectors and buyers.

One more art exhibit will be held this year — the Christmas crafts exhibit, Yobei said.
