Dandan school improvement projects start this month

These include the repainting and repair of  school facilities as well as roof coating.

There are other projects for November but all will be undertaken after class hours and during weekends and holidays, Kintol said.

She said their electrical system will be upgraded and doors will be replaced. The school will also replace its air-conditioning units with energy saving models, she added.

All these projects are funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant.

Kintol said they are still waiting for the funds for the construction of rooms for Chamorro, Carolinian Language and Heritage Study, computer laboratory and library.

The computer learning center is very necessary as it provides  students access to computers, she added.

The school library is temporarily housed at the administration building.

Kintol said DES and other elementary schools are also adopting the standard base report card which they will implement next school year.

She said DES is implementing the standards and benchmarks of the Public School System that allow students to effectively communicate and learn.

“Everything is going as planned,” Kintol said, based on her overall assessment of the school since classed opened early last month.

Kintol said she has a “very good” working relationship with the new vice principal, Reo N. Arriola, who taught sixth grade students  at DES for five years.

She said Arriola is very knowledgeable in academic programs and has a good working relationship with the teachers.
