Dandan student to compete in regional Spelling Bee

DES principal Jonas Barcinas said Jeffery Centino will be the primary participant while Martin Kapileo will be his alternate.

The 2009 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee Contest will be held at the Hilton Hotel.

Barcinas said Centino placed 10th in the Spelling Bee last year, which drew the participation of 85 students.

“The Home of the Tottots is very proud of his achievement and accomplishment. We are keeping our fingers crossed and wishing him all the best as he competes this weekend,” Barcinas said.

Aside from being a Spelling Bee star at DES, Centino is also the Student Council president and part of the Academic Challenge Bee Team which will be competing with other teams from public and private schools on April 11.

“Martin, a fifth grader, will be there as Centino’s alternate and he will be there to watch and learn so next year he will know what to do. His presence there will also teach him to conquer stage fright,” Barcinas said.

“We would like to thank the parents of our two participants for their support and giving guidance to your sons,” he added.

Barcinas will be accompanying Centino, Martin and coach Reo Arriola to Guam.
