Deleon Guerrero gets 11 months for trying to stab partner

Govendo originally imposed five years prison term on Deleon Guerrero, who was also ordered to write a letter of apology to his victim.

The prosecution said Deleon Guerrero attempted to lunge a knife at his partner last July 27.

Deleon Guerrero will be placed on five years’ probation after his release from prison.

He will pay a $500 fine, court costs and probation fees.

He will also undergo evaluation at the Community Guidance Center for anger management and alcohol/substance abuse, and will complete any recommended treatment.

The other charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery in the first amended complaint were dismissed by the court with prejudice as moved by the prosecution.

Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest represented the government while Deleon Guerrero was represented by court-appointed attorney Vicente Seman.

Prior to the assault, the victim tried to wake up Deleon Guerrero to help around the house or to attend to his children, according to Detective Peter Aldan.

The victim was frustrated because all Deleon Guerrero did was “to sleep, wake up, eat, and go back to sleep again,” police said.

The victim took a stick and tried to hit Deleon Guerrero but missed.

Deleon Guerrero then punched his victim on her head and slapped her face many times.

He also took a knife and tried to stab his victim who blocked the knife but cut her right wrist in doing so.

“She’s lucky, I did not kill her,” police quoted Deleon Guerrero as saying after his arrest.

Deleon Guerrero had been previously convicted for:

• possession of a controlled substance, and accessory after the fact, and was sentenced to two years in 2003;

• assault and battery, for which he received a 30-day suspended sentence in 1998; and,

• theft, the sentence for which was a three-year prison term in 1994.
