Democrats try to revive party

Manuel Sablan, party chairman, said they decided to hold the election for their central executive committee on July 2 to reach out to more members.

He said the election will no longer be held at the Garapan Central Park but in the Kagman social hall.

“Our registration drive is ongoing. We’re taking it to various villages,” he said, adding that they are targeting young people to join the party.

Former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero, another party stalwart, said it’s very important that the local Democrats align with the national party.

“There are many benefits that come with it,” he said.

He said a strong alliance with the national Democrats could have given the CNMI a better chance to be heard in Washington, D.C. during the deliberations on the federalization bill.
