“It is open to all elementary schools,” said John Paul Flores, contest coordinator.
Recycled materials include aluminum cans, plastics, paper, including newspapers and magazines.
The recycled materials will be delivered to the following recycling centers: the Transfer Station in Lower Base, Luen Tai Enterprises in San Antonio, Ericco Ent./Basula Produkto in Puerto Rico, Pacific Century Recycling in Lower Base and Chalan Kanoa.
“We are not allowing glass and metal,” because they may harm the children, Flores said.
The recycling efforts will be documented.
“Each school will be provided with a tracking sheet. They should keep the receipts and attach them to the tracking sheet,” Flores said.
All receipts will be verified by DEQ.
Schools must pre-register with DEQ by Nov. 13.
Prizes are $400 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place.
The contest will run from Nov. 16 to April 9.
