In a statement last week, the council said the Public School System is reviewing again the revised monthly reports on the Call-a-Ride program.
The council took over the Call-a-Ride after the non-profit group CNMI Association of Families with Disabilities terminated the memorandum of agreement in Sept. 2008.
Two months later, PSS notified the council about the errors found in the monthly reports from Sept. 2007 to Aug. 2008.
The council was given two and a half month to correct the reports — otherwise the FY 2009 funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation would not be released.
Last month, the council resubmitted the reports after making the necessary corrections.
The council can now announce an RFP for the Call-a-Ride program.
The program is the CNMI’s only accessible transportation service for people with developmental disabilities.
From $90,000, the funding for the program increased to $121,000 and it was provided two new buses for FY 2009.
Providing free transportation is among the council’s commitment to people with disabilities and was among its accomplishments cited by Lt. Timothy P. Villagomez who signed the proclamation designating March as Developmental Disabilities and Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month.
