THE Department of Lands and Natural Resources incinerated 156 lbs. of confiscated deer meat, coconut crabs and land crabs that were illegally hunted.
Conservation officers of the Division of Fish and Wildlife on Friday morning destroyed 144 lbs. of deer meat parts, 6 lbs. of coconut crabs and 6 lbs. of land crabs at the Commonwealth Ports Authority incinerator.
Marianne C. Teregeyo, DLNR special assistant for correspondence, said DFW incinerates all confiscated items.
Teregeyo said some of the deer meat were seized from hunters who did not have the proper documentation and a license to hunt.
It is illegal to hunt Sambar deer, coconut crabs, land crabs, sea crabs, wild goats and wild pigs without a license.
The two open seasons for land crabs are from April 1 to June 30, and from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31. The license fee for hunting land crabs is $10 for local residents and $75 for non-residents.
License for hunting coconut crabs is $10 for local residents, and $75 for non-residents. There is also a bag limit of not more than five per hunt and not more than 10 during the entire season.
The license for Sambar deer on Rota is $10 for residents. Non-residents are not allowed to hunt deer.
During the hunting season from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, each licensee on Rota may hunt only one Sambar deer.
Hunting wild goats, wild pigs and sea crabs is allowed all year round. Hunters, however, must apply for a license, which costs $5 for residents and $25 for non-residents.
All licensees are required to fill up report cards, stating the date, time and location where the species were caught and how they were killed.
DLNR encourages the public to contact DFW’s conservation section for more information on hunting licenses and requirements.
