DOLI will look into Eucon students’ visa request

EUCON’s nursing students may finally be granted student visas by the Division of Immigration.

Labor and Immigration Secretary Joaquin A. Tenorio said the students’ visa applications will be considered now that Eucon college has been issued a provisional license by the State Board of Regents.

“Since they’ve the provisional license, we’ll consider their visa application,” Tenorio said.

He said the visa will enable them to become full-time students in the CNMI.

Eucon earlier said that Immigration had set several conditions for the granting of visa to the six students.

One requirement was a mandatory health examination. The students’ health permits, however, will not expire until August.

When asked about this issue, Tenorio said his office would accept the student’s health certificates “as long as they are appropriate.”

“There’s no problem as long as we get the appropriate health clearance,” he said.

Earlier, Immigration issued visas to three former nursing students of Eucon International College who transferred to Northern Marianas College.

Immigration Director Antonio Sablan said the three students were given visas because they transferred to NMC, a recognized post-secondary institution.

Eucon was given a new provisional license by the board on June 3.

Its previous license was revoked last March due to alleged inadequate educational facilities.

Immigration confiscated the passports of Eucon students upon their arrival on Saipan in August last year. The passports are still with Immigration.
