DPS: 9 individuals arrested on May 5-11

THE Department of Public Safety arrested nine individuals on different charges during the week of May 5-11, 2024.

DPS said two were arrested for sexual assault; three for domestic violence; three for nuisance; one for assault; one for assault with a dangerous weapon; and one for vandalism.

During the same period, DPS responded to 51 criminal incidents, 18 traffic-related cases, one distressed vessel incident, and one distressed swimmer/drowning incident.

According to DPS, of the 71 incidents, 52 were 911 service calls to the police.   

DPS responded to one assault incident; three assault and battery incidents; three assault with a dangerous weapon incidents; two aggravated assault incidents; three nuisance incidents; three domestic violence incidents; three disturbing the peace incidents; four vandalism incidents; one criminal trespass incident; one illegal possession incident; eight burglary incidents; 15 theft incidents; and two sexual assault incidents.

As for traffic incidents, DPS said it responded to 10 auto-auto crash incidents; two auto parked vehicle incidents; one auto ran off to roadway incident; and five auto fixed object incidents. 

For its part, DPS Boating Safety responded to one distressed vessel incident, and one distressed swimmer/drowning incident. 

“Please take note that the data provided indicates the number of 911 calls made for police assistance weekly,” said Police Sgt. Fred Sato, DPS’ public information officer. 

“The criminal complaints received will be promptly referred to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigation. In severe injuries and fatal traffic incidents, the cases will be immediately transferred to the Highway Patrol Investigations unit for further follow-up. Any boating-related incidents are followed up by Boating Safety Investigation,” Sato said.
