THE Department of Public Safety is investigating multiple cases of vehicle damage and gasoline theft.
Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop, the acting DPS public information officer, on Monday stated that in the week of Aug. 18-24, 2024, a total of eight complaints that involved the theft of gas, including from 15-seat passenger vans, were reported to DPS.
“Perpetrators would either puncture the tanks and drain the gasoline or cut the hoses that connect to the tank and siphon the gas out [of] the tanks using another hose. The incidents were reported in Capital Hill, Garapan, Chalan Laulau, Susupe and Chalan Kanoa,” Manacop said.
“Incidents are perpetrated within the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. We ask the community and businesses with passenger vans to take extra security measures and increase vigilance,” he added.
DPS urges those who may have information about these incidents to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (670) 664-9042, DPS at (670) 664-9001 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (670) 234-7272 if they wish to remain anonymous.
