THE Department of Public Safety has issued a public advisory regarding a supposed “notification” about “overdue toll payments.”
Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said, “DPS has received numerous inquiries in reference to a social media post being circulated that identifies as a notice from the DMV.”
He said this is “in reference to overdue toll payments that are being collected, and the suspension of driving privileges if payment is not done.”
“DPS would like to inform the public that the information being circulated on social media was not released by the DPS–Bureau of Motor Vehicles,” Manacop said.
He said the information appears to be scam-related and urged everyone to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of such messages.
eCitation system
In related news, the CNMI Judiciary and DPS met two weeks ago to discuss the logistics of the live implementation of the eCitation system, Variety has learned.
The eCitation system will equip patrol cars with laptops and portable printers, and streamline the traffic citation process and payment of fines.
But according to Manacop, the eCitation system is still not ready.
“There has been [a] test done … but there is a disconnection with citations reaching the courts,” he added.
An update will be provided as soon as it is available.
