This was according to acting Department of Public Secretary Commissioner Dolores San Nicolas in an interview yesterday.
“It is too dangerous to put policemen in the middle of the road during the rainy season or at night time because the darkness and the wet roads make it hard for motorists to stop right on time,” San Nicolas said.
“We are trying to accommodate everyone’s convenience to make sure that everybody is safe, and that includes the safety of our police officers, too,” she said.
“On behalf of DPS Commissioner Sandy F. Tudela, who is off island this week, I am asking the public to continue cooperating with us in giving courtesy to others especially at the intersections,” San Nicolas said.
She added that when on the road, motorists should not forget to take the traffic lights as a “slow down” and “stop” sign, whether the power is on or off.
“This is all that we can do for now, until the power returns to normal. Let us just help, cooperate and keep everybody safe,” San Nicolas added.
She said everybody is suffering from the power outages “but as there is nothing that the residents can do about it for now, cooperation from the community is very necessary.”
