DPS: Gunman fired over 40 rounds

The Department of Public Safety has yet to reveal the results on the autopsy conducted by Dr. Aurelio Espinosa on Li, 42, and the four fatalities last Sunday.

“[Espinosa’s] findings were forwarded to the [Criminal Investigation Division] office.  This case is sensitive in nature, and pending further investigation,” DPS spokesman PO2 Jason Tarkong said.

DPS is still waiting to receive information from the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles regarding the notification of Li’s next of kin in Heilongjiang China, where he was born.

Li’s listed address on Saipan was the Deleon Guerrero compound in Kannat Tabla.

All four fatalities and the survivor suffered gunshot wounds from .223 rifle and .410 shotgun ammunition.

Eight rounds of ammunition were fired by Li, police said.

Police yesterday released the  names of the Kannat Tabla fatalities: Richard Naputi Borja, 22; Enrique B. Naputi, 26, and his daughter Korina DLG. Naputi who turned one-year-old last February; and Vince Larry DLG. Rosario, who celebrated his fifth birthday last Nov. 16.

Enrique Naputi’s daughter, Dolores Naputi, who recently turned four, is now recuperating at the Commonwealth Health from a gunshot wound to her chest.

“Several notes were found at the shooting range and are believed to be written by the suspect.  The contents of the note will not be released,” Tarkong said.

After shooting his victims at Kannat Tabla, Li drove a white van to Marpi.

Police said after expending 30 rounds of a .223 rifle at the Last Command Post, Li proceeded  to Banzai Cliff and shot two more rounds at the tourists near a monument.

Li then turned the .223 high power rifle on himself and committed suicide by a single gunshot wound to his head under his chin, police said.

Li was found near the cliffline of Banzai Cliff by responding officers.

Police said the tourists with the Costa Tour who were wounded were Jung Sik Kim, 38, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh and right lower buttocks; his son Joon Hyung Kim, 8, who was wounded in his right arm; and his daughter Seo Yoon Kim, who will be turning five years old on Dec. 8, who sustained a minor abrasion to her left cheek.

Kim’s wife, Soo Kyung Lee, 36, was not hurt.

Two Korean tourists from Hana Tour which had 11 customers at that time sustained serious gunshot wounds, police said.

Jae Hyung Park had gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was evacuated via air ambulance to Guam from where he was flown to Korea via Asian Airlines on Saturday.

“The victim is possibly paralyzed from the waist down,” Tarkong said.

Man Soo Kim had gunshot wounds to his right arm. He returned to Korea with the rest of the tour group on Sunday.

Li was a former garment worker who transferred to the Kannat Tabla Shooting Range as its “marketing representative.”
