DPS investigating school break-ins

THE Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating a series of burglaries on school campuses, according to the Public School System. Assistant Chief of Police Simon Manacop said no arrests had been made as of Monday’s press time.

On Friday, June 6, the Office of the Commissioner of Education informed the community about these burglaries, highlighting the incidents affecting the Kagman school communities.

“These unlawful incidents have resulted not only in damage to school property, but also in the loss of valuable equipment and resources essential to student learning and school operations,” stated Dr. Lawrence Camacho, the commissioner of education.

In light of these events, he urged the community to remain vigilant. “Your support is critical in helping us deter further incidents, safeguard our campuses, and identify those responsible for these crimes so they may be referred to the proper authorities,” Camacho said.

He said PSS is collaborating with law enforcement and internal personnel to enhance safety measures across campuses. “We are committed to taking strategic actions that improve campus security, prevent future incidents, and ensure that our schools remain safe and welcoming environments for all students and staff,” Camacho added.

He also urged the public to report any suspicious behavior around school campuses, especially during evenings, weekends, or school breaks. “Let us work together to protect our schools and uphold the safe and supportive environment our students and educators deserve,” he said.

If you have any information about these burglaries and other crimes, contact DPS at (670) 664-9001, the NMI Crime Stoppers at (670) 234-7272, or send PSS a message via Facebook or Instagram @cnmipss/.
