DEPARTMENT of Public Safety Officer Jesus Santos Cepeda has been accused of carrying a loaded handgun that he pointed to himself while in an argument and under the influence of alcohol.
On Sept. 3, a penal summons was issued against Cepeda, 61, to appear before Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja on Oct. 16, 2023, at 9 a.m. If Cepeda fails to do so, a warrant may be issued for his arrest, according to clerk of court Patrick Diaz.
DPS Public Information Officer Sgt. Fred Sato told Variety that Cepeda has been placed on administrative duty.
Cepeda has been charged with possession or use of a weapon while under the influence, failure to properly store a firearm, and disturbing the peace.
According to the information against Cepeda, on July 20, 2023, he “unlawfully carried a firearm while under the influence of alcohol…. To wit: defendant, after consuming one or more beers and while under the influence of alcohol, carried a firearm (Glock 9 mm handgun…).”
Cepeda also “placed an unsecured, loaded Glock 9 mm handgun on a septic tank outside his residence.”
In addition, on July 20, Cepeda, “unlawfully and willfully did an act which unreasonably annoyed or disturbed [a woman], depriving of her right to peace and quiet,” to wit: defendant “was loudly arguing with [her] while pointing a loaded handgun at his chest.”
