As of Jan. 16, 2009, DPS had on record 2,000 gun owners with permit and 800 were previously declared as unregistered, Blas said.
Yesterday, acting DPS Commissioner Ambrosio T. Ogumoro notified gun owners to register, renew or transfer their permits within 72 hours, Blas said.
DPS conducted home visits, and sent out media releases, newsletters and mailed notifications to all gun owners on record, reminding them to register their firearms. DPS believes that this is sufficient notice for all gun owners to renew or register their firearms.
Blas said effective Aug. 14, 2010, the DPS Joint Drug and Firearm Enforcement Task Force will take action through arrest warrants and penal summons against gun owners who failed to register and are noncompliant with the Commonwealth Weapons Control Act.
