Former Solomon Islands PM will be happy to lead again

Sikua, however, said a candidate for prime minister will be decided by the group when they come together.

Speaking to the media after announcement of his re-election to parliament, Sikua said he was confident of at least four political parties of the last coalition government coming together to form a group for the next government.

Sikua admits that with what happened in the dying days of the last parliament, he is unsure if the other parties of the last coalition government would join the group.

The caretaker PM said he was happy to see some members of his last government coming back, along with some new ones who joined political parties from the last coalition government.

He openly expressed his regret at the election loss of his former Deputy Prime Minister Fred Fono.

Meanwhile, former Planning Minister Steve Abana has been reelected in the Fataleka constituency on Malaita while a former minister, Martin Magga, has retained his seat of Temotu Pele.

Former MP Michael Maina also lost in the election.
