A Department of Public Safety rescue vehicle on Friday struck another vehicle on Beach Road in Chalan Piao while on its way to respond to a vehicular accident.
George S. Ada, 35, of the Fire Division, and Yun Hee Kwon, 34, were treated at the Commonwealth Health Center and later released for minor injuries.
Traffic Investigator Andrea C. Ozawa determined that the cause of crash was Yun’s error for failing to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna said DPS Rescue I driven by Ada was traveling south on the inner lane of Beach Road, responding to a crash in As Perdido.
Yun’s 1999 Izuzu SUV was traveling north and made a left turn in front of Rescue I. The lights and siren of the emergency vehicle were on.
Ada applied the brake and swerved right to avoid the crash, but the emergency vehicle still struck the SUV on the right side.
Rescue I continued its track to the right side off the highway and struck the front of Stardust Club.
Rescue I, a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban, received extensive damage to the front and left side. The SUV also had extensive damage.
