There was an opening in Hawaii to accommodate the DNA samples in October last year, Variety was told.
DPS spokesman PO2 Eric David earlier said that the case was still under investigation.
In his letter of the Variety, the victim’s father is urging the community to relay information they may have about the crime to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
